iMelway Privacy Policy
The iMelway Apps are private by design. They do not use any network communication for browsing and searching maps.
The iMelway Apps make limited use of your personal information on your device. The only time the iMelway Apps send any personal information off your device is when you request it.
The iMelway Apps reflect the commitment of Melway Publishing Pty Ltd (The Publisher) to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains in detail how the iMelway Apps handle and protect your information.
Privacy policy update June 2021
The section Email support link was updated in June 2021, to restrict the ways the Publisher can use information you include in a support email. The policy for all other data remains the same.
Device location and course
Tapping the Location button will request the location and course (direction of movement) of your device from the operating system, so this information can be displayed on the map.
The first time you access this feature, the operating system will ask you to approve access to the location and course information. If you approve access, the location and course will be updated on the map until you either tap Location again, or move the app to the background.
At any time, you can use the Privacy section of the Settings app to disable the iMelway Apps' access to location and course information.
The iMelway Apps do not send location and course information off your device unless you request it via the Share button. See the section below on the Share button for more detail.
Location marker
You can long press any point visible in the iMelway Apps to display a marker. This marker can optionally display the latitude and longitude of the point you mark.
The iMelway Apps do not send details of the marked point off your device unless you request it via the Share button. See the section below on the Share button for more detail.
The last point you marked in each App is stored on your device so the marker is still visible next time you use the iMelway App.
Contact addresses
The iMelway Apps include a button to select an address from the Contacts you have stored on your device, as part of the Search feature. You can select a single address at a time.
When you select an address using this feature, it is shared with the iMelway App so the street can be found in the iMelway App's street index. The iMelway Apps never send the address or the street off your device. The iMelway Apps keep no record of the address or the street you selected, on or off your device.
Search and map browsing
The iMelway Apps allow you to browse maps of any location within the areas of coverage. The iMelway Apps include a Search feature to help you find any street, place, Melway Map or Melway Map Reference you choose from the Melway indexes.
The iMelway Apps never send details of your searches off your device. The iMelway Apps keep no record of your searches, on or off your device.
The full set of maps is stored on your device, so the iMelway Apps do not use any network communication to download maps for the location you are browsing. Whether you browse locations directly or via Search, the iMelway Apps do not send details off your device unless you request it via the Share button. The last location you browsed in each App is stored on your device so the iMelway App can return to the same location next time you use it.
The Share button
The iMelway Apps include a Share button to share the location you are currently browsing outside the iMelway Apps.
When you tap the Share button, the following information about the location you are browsing is provided to the operating system:
- an image of the map you are browsing
- the name of an associated Melway map
- the Melway Map Reference (if applicable), and
- the latitude and longitude of a point within the area being browsed.
You can then use the operating system's Share user interface to work with this information. This includes sending it to other people, organisations, devices and apps. This information is shared only with recipients you choose. It is not copied to the Publisher or any third parties.
If your location or course are visible on the map when you tap the Share button, they will be included in the information provided to the operating system.
The first time you request a map image to be saved to the Photos on your device, the operating system will ask you to approve access to your Photos. If you approve access, each image you request will be saved.
At any time, you can use the Privacy section of the Settings app to disable the iMelway Apps' access to your Photos. The iMelway Apps are unable to access existing photos from the Photos app.
Email Support Link
The iMelway Apps contain a link, on the Info screen, to email the Publisher with questions or feedback about each App.
If you send an email using this link, unless you provide express permission to do so, the Publisher will not use the contents for tracking, advertising or marketing purposes.
Links to App Store and Web sites
The iMelway Apps contain links, on the Info screen, to the App Store and to Web sites, including the Melway Website.
The Publisher encourages you to review the privacy statements of the App Store and Web sites you choose to link to from the iMelway Apps so that you can understand how the App Store and those Web sites collect, use and share your information. The Publisher is not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on the App Store or Web sites outside of the Melway Website and the Melway Website family of Web sites.
Changes to this Statement
The Publisher will occasionally update this Privacy Policy to reflect changing circumstances, including company and customer feedback. The Publisher encourages you to periodically review this Policy to be informed of how the iMelway Apps are protecting your information.
